Keeping Idaho’s Public Lands in Public Hands
In Idaho’s First District, our public wilderness isn’t an abstract environmental issue, it is the literal backbone of our economy, our culture, and our daily way of life. From rural timber country to high-desert ranch lands, Kaylee believes that protecting access to our public spaces is an absolute, non-negotiable duty to future generations.

1. Protecting Historic Public Access
Our public spaces belong to the people, not the highest bidder. Kaylee firmly opposes out-of-state corporate lobbying efforts to privatize, sell off, or close down access to federal lands. Our platform is dedicated to ensuring Idaho hunters, anglers, campers, and foraging families retain their historic, unhindered right to access and enjoy the backcountry for generations to come.
2. Forest Staffing & Infrastructure Investment
True land conservation requires proactive stewardship, not neglect. Kaylee is committed to working hand-in-hand with Idaho’s Forest Service and federal agencies to ensure they are fully staffed, adequately funded, and equipped to clear the massive maintenance backlogs facing our public tracts. By responsibly investing in expanding existing infrastructure and scaling local timber markets, we can protect our wilderness while driving strong, sustainable economic growth.
3. Reforming PILT & Expanding Local Revenue Shares
Because federal lands cannot be taxed, rural counties depend on Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) to fund local sheriffs, road repairs, and emergency crews—but the current system is completely insufficient. We address this not by demanding more federal dependence, but by ensuring local counties secure their fair share of active resource production. By expanding local revenue-sharing models from our timber and infrastructure developments, we can naturally increase local funding and ensure high-concentration public land counties aren't left with an empty budget bag.
